Abstract

As noted elsewhere, in temperature profiles obtained by a tethered balloon, thermal plumes can be distinguished from true stratification by the simultaneous operation of an acoustic echo sounder. Rising thermals observed acoustically are analyzed and compared with in situ measured temperature profiles.
