Abstract

A possible role of downdraft structures in Betts’ adjustment for nonprecipitating cumulus clouds is examined. The types of mixing-line slopes that correspond to the different downdraft equilibrium levels are used in the assessment of the reference profiles of temperature and specific humidity inside the computed cumulus layers, and the relative importance of mixing structures representing downdrafts in these cumulus layers is estimated.
