Abstract

An exponentially-mapped past (EMP) average has been compared with the conventional arithmetic average of wind speed. Normalized rms differences between the two averages did not exceed 8% and showed a significant decrease from this value with increasing averaging time and wind speed. For many applications, differences of this order are unimportant. In such cases, the simplicity, low cost, and other features of circuits implementing the EMP average can be profitably utilized.
