Abstract

As radar waves at different polarizations propagate through a medium of nonspherical, oriented scatterers a phase difference between the waves appears. A method is proposed for estimating this propagation-differential phase shift using sequential measurements at alternating horizontal and vertical polarizations. As a consequence, several new potentially useful parameters can be extracted from alternating horizontal and vertical co-polarization measurements.
