Abstract

The evaporation, growth and physical properties of slurry fallout particles descending through the atmosphere are quantitatively examined by application of established cloud-physics equations. An arithmetic system of analysis is proposed and applied to radioactive slurry fallout particles collected at Operation REDWING. Reasonable agreement between observed and calculated particle properties supports the validity of applying this method to other meteorological situations where volatile droplet fallout may occur.
