Abstract

Matrix elements 〈0J|Q|vJ′〉 of the quadrupole moment Q connecting the vibrational level v = 0 of the ground electronic states of H2, HD and D2 to all the discrete vibrational levels v′ are presented for the 0, Q and S branches originating with rotational quantum numbers J = 0(1)4. Some sample values of the resulting quadrupole absorption coefficients are also presented.
