Abstract

An elementary analysis of in-cloud scavenging of aerosol particles is presented which clearly displays the potential for identifying the rate-limiting stage of the overall process. From this model one can infer the particle-size dependence of the rainout rate, although it is speculated that perhaps the cloud water removal rate, as opposed to attachment rate, is frequently the rate-limiting stage of in-cloud scavenging.
