The size, shape and character of radar echoes caused by precipitation as viewed on PPI scopes are related to the clouds in which the precipitation develops. Photographs of PPI scopes showing precipitation echoes of various types are shown together with areal photographs of the clouds in the immediate vicinity of the precipitation. Such a presentation is an aid in the interpretation of radar precipitation echoes.
