A comparison was made of the ratings of TV weather programs presented by AMS professional meteorologists vs. nonprofessional personnel. It was found, on the average weekday during February and March 1969, that an estimated 18.8 million adults were watching these weather programs. Eleven million, or 59%, were tuned to the programs presented by professionals. Seven million and eight hundred thousand (41%) were tuned to nonprofessional weathercasters. These data are interpreted to mean that the public, when given a choice, decidedly prefers TV news programs with weather presented by professionals.
