The Second International Conference on School and Popular Meteorological and Oceanographic Education has led to innovative initiatives in precollege education in the area of atmospheric sciences. The conference demonstrated that the American Meteorological Society could have a major impact on the instructional attitudes and practices of precollege teachers. As a direct result of the conference, the Society's innovative education program—Project ATMOSPHERE—enjoys the attention of the science education community.
