Polar Climate Stability
The papers that constitute this special collection of the Journal of Climate are focused upon the problem of climate change at high northern (and southern) latitudes. It represents a snapshot sample of the efforts of a group of Canadian scientists at the midpoint in the life cycle of a nationwide research network that was formed to assist in understanding the marked changes in climate that are occurring in high northern latitudes as a consequence of the ongoing greenhouse gas-induced warming of surface temperatures. This influence is well known to be exacerbatedin the north as a consequence of the positive feedback associated with the reduction of land ice, sea ice, and winter snow-cover elements of the cryosphere.
