AM3 skill in simulating temperature and pressure patterns associated with the Northern Hemisphere annular mode (NAM), also referred to as the Arctic Oscillation, can be similarly assessed. These patterns can be depicted as the product of the standard deviation of the NAM index and the regression coefficients between the NAM index and the field of interest.
