( Thorncroft and Hodges 2001 ; Berry and Thorncroft 2005 ; Hopsch et al. 2007 ) have noted genesis of vorticity maxima near the Guinea Highlands that they ascribe to latent heating from convection in the monsoon trough and relate such vorticity maxima to subsequent cyclogenesis downstream over the east Atlantic.
