Tools were developed for land managers to predict possible deforestation or reforestation effects on the hydrological regime, taking into account land biophysical characteristics. Among these tools, simulation models can be used to compare the relative effect of various scenarios. A summary of some of these models is presented in Table 1 . Some of them were conceived for research purposes
