Abstract

A method is proposed to update forecasts by optimum utilization of meteorological data received from fixed or moving observation stations at regular or irregular intervals. It involves the application of corrections to the forecast in such a way that differences between observations and predictions are smoothed in the least-mean-square sense. Formulas are developed for the corrections and the results of some numerical experiments are reported.
