Abstract

A computer-oriented numerical method is developed that under certain physically acceptable assumptions appears to make possible the calculation of the charge distribution in thunderstorms and other clouds from the record of the electric field measured from an airplane that flies ȧ known straight path near the cloud. The method is illustrated with an assumed charge distribution, and its application to actual flight measurements is cited.
