Abstract

Data are presented on the relationship between drop size and imprint diameter produced by the impact of water drops with aluminum foil in an aircraft precipitation sampler at speeds of 140 and 230 kt. Examination of the data obtained for drops of from <1 mm diameter to ∼5 mm diameter indicates that the ratio of imprint to drop diameter lies in the range 1.0–1.30.
