Abstract

A physical explanation is given of the nature and origin of the June–August Southern Oscillation and of its relationships with the contemporary, and following September–November and December–February, air and sea temperatures. The variations in the Southern Oscillation are attributed to solar activity, in part directly and in part through the variations in the Antarctic circulation.
