Summary
A new balance for inflating pilot- or sounding-balloons, using the principle of the Robervaal balance, is described. The essential features are as follows:—the variable weight of the empty balloon and all friction and bending resistances are compensated before filling is commenced by means of a self moving weight which stops automatically at the point of equilibrium. A valve automatically turns off the gas-supply at the moment the balloon attains the prescribed free lift.
