The industrial complex in the Chicago-Gary region has reportedly produced a modification of the precipitation regime around La Porte, Ind. Previous studies have indicated that the precipitation in the La Porte area has been increased by the addition of large amounts of waste materials into the atmosphere by heavy industry. An analysis of the records of the Kankakee River above Davis, Ind., provides supporting evidence for the change in precipitation in the form of changes in the annual distribution of runoff and in the pattern of runoff through time.
