A field study of “southerly” changes on the east coast of New Zealand will be conducted in January 1988. Previous related work is reviewed. The experiment may reveal similarities with east coast southerly busters in Australia although the New Zealand mountains are higher and the coast is not continental. An outline of the supplementary observing program is given.
