Expert witnesses are being used in litigatory proceedings with unparalleled frequency. Traditionally unfamiliar with this role, the meteorologist must address new issues regarding events influenced by weather phenomena, or the assessments associated with operations or capital improvements by industry. An outline of the general procedures to which the meteorologist will be exposed, and guidelines for developing an ethical and informed response, when serving as an expert witness are provided herein.
