Abstract

A one-layer. one-dimensional numerical model is described which simulates the life cycle of the extratropical low-level jet (LLJ). The LLJ starts as an isallobaric wind near the point of maximum pressure tall. Subsequently, the LLJ expands over a wide area. Daily variation of wind in the LLJ is attributed to the variation in surface friction.
