The growth rate shown for the Archiving, Validation, and Interpretation of Satellite Oceanographic data (AVISO; σAVISO) in Fig. 2 of Chang and Oey (2014) is incorrect. While the various model growth rates, σModel, σModel//, σModelNF, and σModel0–100m, and the growth rate σNM from the normal-mode analysis of the appendix of Chang and Oey (2014) are shown correctly, the σAVISO was calculated using a different computer program, and its values need to be multiplied by 0.5 in order to be compared on the same plot with the other growth rates shown, including the Eady growth rate σEady (Eady 1949) and the growth-rate curve obtained from Kobashi and Kawamura (2002; σKK02). This error does not affect the seasonal or interannual variations of σAVISO, however, and as the paper draws inferences solely on the variation of σAVISO whenever it is referenced, and not on its magnitude, all related conclusions remain unchanged.
