West African Weather Prediction and Predictability
This special collection is focused on weather prediction and predictability in the West African monsoon region. It was motivated by the considerable amount of research activity that has taken place in the region in recent years and, in particular, that which has taken place in the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis (AMMA) project as well as the NASA AMMA (NAMMA) project (see https://journals.ametsoc.org/collection/122/TCSP-NAMMA). The collection covers several areas relevant to weather prediction in the region including: predictability studies, ensemble prediction systems, data assimilation studies, model evaluations using AMMA data, as well as process studies that relate to rainfall, African easterly waves, mesoscale systems and tropical cyclogenesis. The articles will be presented below as they are published.
